Faro Barcelona was founded in 1945 by the López family as a table lamp manufacturer. Throughout the past 75 years, the company has been evolving and incorporating innovation and design into its products, consolidating itself today as one of the leading Spanish companies in the lighting and ventilation sector.
One of the basic pillars of the firm is innovation. To that end, there are multidiscipline and multiarea teams oriented towards undertaking strategic projects in the circular economy, in the I.O.T., in additive manufacturing (3D printing), in BIM and in the measurement and minimization of the environmental and social impact of their activity.
The other major pillar of value creation in the company is design. With the arrival in 2003 of Xavi Martín as General Manager, Faro Barcelona began its journey towards a new business model based on the creation of value through design, following the pattern of "Democratic Design". Good design does not have to be at odds with its accessibility. The comfort and happiness of the people who live with the Faro Barcelona designs, and wellbeing, commitment, respect and awareness are the values that the brand wants to convey with its creations. That is why it is firmly committed to accessible designs based on these values.
The company has its own "Faro Lab" design team whose creations are characterized by their original forms, quality of materials and the use of new technologies. In addition, to meet the needs of a market in that is constantly evolving, it has introduced proposals for aesthetic, functional and cutting-edge signature lighting from prestigious designers who work with the group to create designs with a style of their own, but at the same time consistent with the identity of the brand.
The internationalization process has also been key in this brand evolution, driving investment and increasing product manufacturing and supply. It currently exports in excess of 50% of its sales to over 110 countries and serves more than 7000 customers. It also has a commercial branch in Hong Kong and its own showrooms in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, London, Madrid and Barcelona. The recent opening of the showroom in the heart of Barcelona's El Born district in February 2020 has consolidated the company's collaborative spirit. This space, covering over 800 sq. m (8600 sq. ft.), was conceived to promote creativity and design among established professionals, emerging talents and design students. A calendar of activities with artistic exhibits, workshops, presentations and conferences transmit the open spirit of the firm and its desire to create meeting places where the will to co-create, reflect and share ideas is brought to the forefront.
In the international arena, the company has also received multiple awards and recognitions such as two Red Dot Awards for the INVITING lights designed by Bohman&Folenius and HOOK created by Oiko Design, four German Awards, two Green Product Awards and two If Design Awards, among others.
The firm's commitment to the environment and society is fully reflected in the HOOK portable lamp, a piece made entirely from recycled bottle caps. Thanks to its ecological design, this lamp reduces the environmental impact by 70% compared to other light fixtures. This lamp also contributes to social inclusion as it is assembled by people with disabilities. Through the collaboration between the company and the NGO Mary's Meals, with the sale of each unit a child is fed during a school year in Zambia.
Ingenuity, versatility and functionality are other company values conveyed fully by the INVITING light fixture, which won an If Design Award in the Lighting category. This is a recognition of design excellence for taking into account the needs of the user as a key part of its design. Inviting enables you to control the intensity and temperature of the light, adapting to different needs and spaces. This model also has a Red Dot Award and a German Design Award.
The LE VITA, TAKE AWAY lamp models, designed by the studio Nahtrang and GUEST, created by Andreu Carulla, are other lighting icons Faro Barcelona that represent values such as wellbeing and simplicity (LE VITA), portability and autonomy (TAKE AWAY) and ecodesign and awareness (GUEST). This entire wide range of lamps for all types of indoor and outdoor settings is rounded out with its unique catalog of fans based on design and intellectual property, leading the European market. Its lighting and fan pieces can be found in many hotels in countries such as France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Kuwait and others.
