In 2005, Spanish outdoor furniture company Gandía Blasco opened its first showroom in New York in Manhattan’s Midtown East area, thereby demonstrating its firm commitment to expanding into the North American market. In 2011, having been in this part of the city for several years, the company decided to relocate its showroom to SoHo, one of the Big Apple’s most hip, culturally cutting-edge areas.
Opened in August 2011, the new showroom is in Greene Street, and is surrounded by art galleries, fashion boutiques and upscale restaurants. The new, two-storey, 350sq m shop has been designed by Gandía Blasco under the direction of New York architect Matthew Kelly. Its considered layout showcases the brand’s latest collections to the best advantage.
Opening a showroom in SoHo was an important step for the company. Its move to this new location has raised its profile in New York, and it’s now in an area where its customers are likely to be younger and more on Gandía Blasco’s wavelength. What’s more, SoHo is currently the area with the highest concentration of high-end design shops in the city – B&B Italia, Moroso, Kettal, Dedon and Apavisa also have showrooms there. You could even say that SoHo is the main centre for contemporary furniture in US.
Gandía Blasco boasts an established distribution network in 74 countries all over the world and has 15 showrooms in cities such as Milan, Los Angeles, Istanbul and Barcelona, to name a few. One of its projects for the forthcoming year is the opening of a mono-brand store in Miami’s Design District, set to open early next year.
